When I paint a leaf I notice every vein, every worm hole, every soft color, every curl of the vine. I would not notice these details in a glance. Intent observation is a meditative practice, a skill that can be learned. My watercolor and drawing classes will enhance your life.

Think, more than you paint.
“Think, more than you paint.
If you don’t have a good composition structure underneath your painting, all the fancy flourishes you put to it aren’t going to work.” Watercolorist, Larry Cannon

Start where you are…
What are you really buying?
I don’t know who to attribute this to, but I like the message and want to share it.
“When you buy something from an artist, you’re buying more than an object. You’re buying hundreds of hours of errors and experimentation. You’re buying years of frustration and moments of pure joy. You’re not buying just one thing, you are buying a piece of a heart, a piece of a soul … a small piece of someone else’s life.

Having trouble making time for your art? You’re not alone. I’ve been listening to podcasts on this very subject. Artist after artist offer helpful suggestions to address this problem. Keeping your supplies ready and having a designated art space are two of the most useful. Showing up every day, if only for twenty minutes, is a tough one, but also very effective.
Watercolor Crash Course! on November 05 is the last crash course for 2022.
Subject: Blue Heron
Location: LaGrange Art Museum
